SPOOKY CARAMEL PRETZELS WITH @BURBANKMOM

Our guest blogger this week is Jessica at BurbankMom.com! She has put together a fun and spooky Halloween treat. It’s the perfect activity to do with kids before sitting down to binge The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Netflix!

Halloween is always more fun with themed treats like Spooky Caramel Pretzels! They’re easy to make, very cost effective and fun for the entire family to get in on the action. With only a few ingredients, you can make your favorite pretzel best friends with your favorite caramels!

For the pretzels we made at home, I choose traditional caramels. You can use whatever kinds of caramels are your favorites, and trust me, there are a lot to choose from.

You can also choose any kind of pretzel you’d like, but pick one that has strong structure. We prefer the square pretzels you can find in the chip aisle in the grocery store. They’re strong and bake well in the oven. Your local craft store has the rest of what you’ll need. This is where my kids love to help me shop. During Halloween-time, you can find candy sprinkles, eyes and all kinds of goodies to spruce up your treat.

Making these sweet treats is super simple, and easy to do with kids.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Pretzels

  • Caramels

  • Candy Melts in the colors of your choice

  • Halloween sprinkles

  • Candy eyeballs, if you desire!

Tools:

  • Bowls for melting chocolate and holding sprinkles

  • Cookie sheet

  • Parchment paper

  • Various utensils, as needed

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees (Oven temps may vary, but you basically want to soften the caramels enough to pat them down over the pretzel)

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place your pretzels in evenly spaced rows. You can fill the cookie sheet!  Place the caramels on the pretzels, which I actually cut in half, depending on the size of the caramel.

Bake for 3 minutes then remove from the oven. Wait 2 minutes and with a clean hand, gently push the softened caramels to coat the pretzel.

Wait until the caramels are cool, before decorating. This is a great time to prep your candy melts, according to the package. When cool, it’s up to you and how creative you can be! The kids love this part. Dip the caramel pretzel in a colored candy melts and cover in your Halloween decor!

Good luck making your own Spooky Caramel Pretzel’s for Halloween!
